Ha. That Kia is on local craigslist. I was just looking at it today.

That AE86 needs to be taken away by CPS (car protective services) for negligence and abuse.

I’d rock that Kia because why the hell not?

That’s the life story of every AE86. And they rust. Some aren’t worth saving unfortunately.

I don’t see what the big deal with that red civic is. It looks like every other 90s Civic on the road. Having just a fart can, it’s probably one of the least riced examples.

it’s a slippery slope , it may have a fart can now , who knows how far he/she will go though

The second last picture. I don’t know whether I hate the colour scheme more than it bugs me that they are obviously in stationary traffic and all sitting with there feet on the foot brake and not using the handbrake.

I like it...
but I also like VIP, and Bosozoku which this kinda blends together. Looks like something straight out of an anime about monster man eating alien cars or something like that.

What? I have never in my life seen anyone sitting at a stoplight or in traffic and using a handbrake instead of the brake pedal. Now in really bad (i.e., not moving at all) traffic I’ve thrown an auto into park. Indeed, with the advent of auto stop/start (so long as you leave it on), you have to keep your foot on the brake or the car will start and want to move.

I do and 99% of drivers I know and see on the road.

For short periods say at a junction, but for any period of time at a set of lights, you put the hand brake on and take it out of gear and then as the lights go from red to green you press the clutch, put it in first gear, apply a small amount of accelerator to the biting point and take the hand brake off when ready to go.
Are you not instructed to do this in your driving lessons in the U.S.?

Wow, no. The only time I ever do that is on a steep grade. And, no, U.S. driving instruction does not include
anything
about driving a manual, let alone that technique.
The other thing is that most people drive automatics, and the standard practice is to leave it in D the whole time and hold the foot brake at stops. I think many people will put it in park when stopped at a railroad crossing though.
The handbrake at an intersection doesn’t make sense to me for another reason. Your brake lights will be off. I would rather have one more cue to the driver coming up behind me that I am stopped.

Sitting on the footbrake is known as ‘burning the brakelight’ here.
I’ve never driven an auto but we’re supposed to put the car in neutral and engage the handbrake or when stopped for short periods many will leave it in drive and just put on the handbrake.
I guess it’s just different ways for different countries and how it’s taught.
Manuals make up the vast majority of cars on U.K. roads and if you pass in a manual you can drive a manual or an automatic, where if you pass in an automatic you are only allowed to drive an automatic which will be identified on your driving licence.

My fun car is a manual — I will take it out of gear and sit at a stoplight, but if it starts to move I go back to the brake. I didn’t realize that most UK cars are manuals — it’s hard to find anything other than autos in newer US cars unless you are getting a “sports” or “muscle”-type car.

Ye’, many if not most autos are German such as BMW, upper end VW and Audi or some sort of prestige brand. 75% of cars sold in 2013 were manuals which is an 8% drop over the last ten years. The swing more to autos may happen now with all these driver aids such as lane assist, city stop, etc... but for many the cheap and effective manual will be king.
Automatics tend to be a bit more expensive and if something goes wrong with the gearbox, well, you better of saved for it. Friend quoted £8,000 for a gearbox for her Audi Q5 another told that if would cost too much to diagnose a fault in his BMW gearbox and certain parts may need replaced just for opening it up to look inside.

Not ‘burning the brakelight’ sounds like something that came about because of Lucas electrics! Just kidding.
I won’t defend US driver testing. Most other countries have a much more sane take on training and licensing.

It’s a Japanese Style pretty much just super low big sedans, big body Toyotas are the most common, with big wheels, negitive camber, custom body kits, and crazy interiors.

But we can get our driver’s license and concealed carry permit all in the same day. Of course, if you get pressed for time, you can just slide the gun into your holster and open carry.

We were always told to ‘make safe the vehicle’ when stationary for any long periods (ie taking it out of gear and applying the handbrake). Learning proper clutch control, listening to what the engine is telling you, feeling what the car is telling you etc...
